Bromsgrove Ladies A look set for runners-up spot

Craig Gibbons 6th Jul, 2016 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016

BROMSGROVE Ladies A have all but secured the runners-up spot in Division One of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Summer League following their 5-1 victory over Pershore A.

Although teams around Bromsgrove have games in hand, the sheer points difference should be enough to secure them second place barring any freak results.

The first pair of Rachel Mack with Imogen Sinclair proved too much for the opposition as they won both their contests.

Similarly, the experience of Jilly Witcomb with Meg Jones showed as they claimed their two matches playing at third pair.

After a long and tense three-set battle, Tina Manning with Sally Franks lost the only rubber of the day.

Captain Franks said: “I think we’ve done enough to secure the runners up spot for the second year in a row.

“The whole squad has played well throughout the season and we’ve been well supported by B team players stepping in when we’ve needed them.”

Bromsgrove Ladies C kept up the pressure on Division Five East leaders Inkberrow with a 5-1 victory away at Belbroughton A.

The first pair of Steph Armstrong with Beccy Smith and third pair of Anne Simper with Connie Wedelich each won both their matches in convincing style in two sets.

Lisa Rushton with Lorraine Russell at second pair beat their opposite pair but lost a close battle against the home side’s first pair.

The result leaves Bromsgrove in second, four points behind the leaders Inkberrow with a game in hand.

Captain Wedelich said: “It was another strong team performance and with just two matches left were all looking for another promotion, hopefully as champions.”
