BROMSGROVE’s Ladies F team put on a strong display to overcome local rivals Barnt Green B in Division Ten East of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter League.
Di Horton with Claire Hancock won 6-1, 6-3 in the opening round while Alison Douglas with Carol Cornelissen fought out a long three-set battle.
Hampered by an injury to Cornilessen, the pair lost 4-6 in the final set.
However, Cornelissen managed to keep going and despite limited mobility, they won 6-2, 6-4 in their second contest.
Hancock and Horton again played well to win their second rubber 6-4, 6-3 to ensure the match win.
Captain Hancock said: “Carol showed real grit to continue after her injury and ensure we remain unbeaten and top of the table after our first two games.
“It’s the fighting spirit we need to challenge for promotion this winter.”
Meanwhile, the Ladies D opened their Division Five East campaign with victory over Ombersley B.
Steph Armstrong with Lorraine Russell started with a tough match against a strong Ombersley first pair winning 6-3, 6-4.
They then followed it up with a 6-3, 6-3 win.
Connie Wedelich with Anne Simper started bywinning a tight tie break in their opening set before a more comfortable second set win.
However, the next rubber went the wrong way for them as they lost in two sets.
After the match Simper said: “This was a hard match and shows what a tough division this is, but we’re all up for the challenge ahead of us and it’s always good to open up with a win.”
