BROMSGROVE’S Ladies D and F teams both boosted their promotion hopes with crucial wins against fellow contenders in the Hereford & Worcestershire Winter League.
In Division Five East, second-placed Bromsgrove took on third-placed Stourbridge E and won by the narrowest of margins – a single game.
In the opening round both pairs of Beccy Smith with Lorraine Russell and Lisa Rushton with Anne Simper faced three-set battles.
Smith and Russell just went down but Rushton and Simper clinched a tight rubber.
The second round was reversed as Smith and Russell won in two sets and Rushton and Simper lost in straight sets.
With rubbers at 2-2, and sets level at 5-5, Bromsgrove took the win bonus points by 46 games to 45.
Meanwhile, in Division Ten East, top-of-the-table Bromsgrove F edged out second-placed Halesowen C on sets.
Clare Hancock with Di Horton were in top form as they took two vital wins, both in two sets.
Jane Corbett with Carol Cornellisen fought hard, going down in three sets in their opener and then by two sets.
But the extra set they won gave the win to Bromsgrove to stretch their lead at the top.
The Ladies A went down 3-1 at table-toppers Worcester A in Division One.
In a match with three three-set contests, Bromsgrove held match points in all of them but couldn’t convert.
Sally Franks with Tina Manning took the Bromsgrove rubber.
Elsewhere, a good 3-1 win against Stourbridge D for the Men’s B team lifted them out of the relegation zone of Division Three East.
Steve Jones with Matt Smith won both their rubbers in two sets.
Jeth Tomlinson with Voitek Niedzwiedz lost a tight three-set opener before winning their final contest in two sets.
With matches in hand and two wins in a row, they are starting to turn their season around.
