BROMSGROVE A were unable to turn around their fortunes in Men’s Division One of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Summer League after slipping to a 10-4 defeat at Worcester B.
The result means that Bromsgrove missed out on an opportunity to leapfrog Stourbridge A into third place, and remain fourth, with Worcester B close behind in fifth.
Despite winning the first set, Bromsgrove pair Adam Dudek and Joe Hart went down 7-5, 5-7, 2-6 in their opener, before a walkover in the second match gifted Worcester pair Damon Gariff and Alastair Barton a straight sets 6-0, 6-0 victory.
The duo of Steve Halfpenny and Oliver Stratford responded to bring the visitors back into contention after winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, though the pair subsequently lost the fourth match 3-6, 1-6 to Richard Ashley-Smith and Tom Welsh.
Dudek and Hart ensured that Bromsgrove went out on a high in match five, winning 6-3, 6-2 against Gariff and Barton, but a second walkover of the game secured victory for the hosts.
In Men’s Division Two, Barnt Green A claimed a much-needed 12-2 win against Stourbridge B to rise to sixth in the table.
The duo of Paul Cowie and Martyn Langston were involved in a tight three-setter in their opening match, going down 3-6, 6-4, 6-7.
But after the pairing of James Flynn and Christopher Davis responded with a three-set win (1-6, 6-2, 7-5) in the second tie, The Green went on to win their remaining four matches in straight sets.
