BROMSGROVE Mixed D put themselves in contention for promotion from Division Six of the Herefordshire & Worcestershire League with a fantastic win over league leaders Wombourne A.

Led by captain Lisa Rushton, Bromsgrove pulled off a fantastic 4-0 win, securing maximum points which boosts their chances of gaining promotion.

Wombourne’s first pair proved a tough nut to crack but Rushton with Bruce Turner and Anne Simper with Chris Hands fought had to get wins in three close sets.

Wombourne’s second pair were also quickly dispatched in two sets.

Rushton said: “The whole team put in a strong fighting performance to lift us up the table. We’re going into our final matches full of confidence now.”

Bromsgrove Men’s C climbed up to third in Division Six with one game remaining after coming away with a 3-1 victory over Ombersley A.

Ombersley’s first pair of Ben Portman and Adam Barwell narrowly beat Bromsgrove’s Voitek Niedzwiedz and Trevor Errington over three sets before losing to jack Walters and John Dudek in the following game.

Both Bromsgrove pairs enjoyed two set wins against the second Ombersley pair.

The Ladies F team also enjoyed success as they claimed a 4-0 victory over Pershore D in Division Nine.

Alison Douglas with Carol Cornellison and Naomi Moore with Sue Corfield proved too strong as they claimed maximum points, a result which will ensure the ladies finish in a solid mid-table finish.

Elsewhere, the Ladies G team are continuing to find it tough in Division 10 following last year’s promotion after succumbing to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Droitwich E.

The pairs of Avril Pugh with Di Horton and Fay Gales with Claire Andrews could not put up with the prowess of a strong Droitwich team.
