Bromsgrove Crusaders enjoy try spree to sink rivals

Bromsgrove Editorial 18th Oct, 2018   0

BROMSGROVE Crusaders continued their winning streak with a 44-17 home victory over Redditch Seconds.

It was a fantastic eight-try display by the Crusaders who ran well-rehearsed phases between the forwards and the backs, with confidence increasing among the veterans squad.

Redditch capitalised on two basic errors against the run of play to take a 10-0 lead after 15 minutes.

However, Bromsgrove regrouped and started to play their own game, running the phases and then the avalanche of tries started with centre Dave Wellavize crashing over after a series of powerful breaks through the centre.

More tries followed in quick succession from Alan Collins, Geoff Williams and Martin Lakeman.

In the second half Bromsgrove continued to break down Redditch’s defences with the backs and forwards combining together, running brilliant lines in support of each other.

A series of well-taken tries by Mark Cornelius, Franky Hale, Ben Copson and a second for Lakeman extended their advantage.

Despite the windy conditions, Bromsgrove repeatedly stole ball in the line-out, with Geoff Williams coming out on top.

This was some achievement as he was the smallest player on the pitch.

Redditch bagged a consolation try late on but it wasn’t something which bothered Bromsgrove who played with intensity and passion throughout.

Bromsgrove make the trip to Stourport Seconds on Saturday.
