Bromsgrove bouyant ahead of Hinckley test

BROMSGROVE RFC will be bidding to secure their third successive victory in National Three Midlands when they travel to Hinckley on Saturday.

Confidence is likely to be growing at Finstall Park after they ran in seven tries in their 50-15 victory over winless Dudley Kingswinford last weekend.

It also follows their win at bottom side Burton, but with Hinckley in the top ten, head coach Dan Protherough knows his side have got tougher tests to come.

“I am really pleased with the win over Dudley as we killed the game off by half time,” he said. “But we are now going into quite a tough run of games, so I hope the guys are feeling confident.

“The team is starting to gel, but Hinckley are going well as they got a good win last Saturday as well, so we have got to make sure we front up and get a positive result.”

Promising wing Keiran Walton was the pick of the scorers against Dudley as he helped himself to a hat-trick and Protherough said he was delighted to see young players take their chances.

“I think it is really important to bring the youngsters through the club, so people know there is a pathway from mini and juniors at Bromsgrove into the first team.

“As you go up the leagues that becomes harder, but in the league that we are in now we are giving the likes of Keiran a chance and it was great to see that he had the confidence to score three tries.

“He is not the finished article yet, but you only get better by playing and that’s what we will do here.”
