BROMSGROVE women’s A team will head into the New Year top of Women’s Division One after a 10-0 whitewash home victory over Pershore A.
In their latest fixture in the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter League, Rachael Mack and Katherine Smedley set the tone for what was to come with a 6-1, 7-6 win against Pershore duo Michelle Collings and Sarah McCormick.
Sally Franks and Tina Manning backed up the result with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Caoimhe Guppy and Georgia Marrett, before the visiting pair fell to a 6-2, 6-2 defeat to Mack and Smedley.
A final win for Franks and Manning over Collings and McCormick followed, signing off the match with a 6-4, 7-5 triumph.
There was a similarly impressive victory for Droitwich A women at Manor Park B, where the visitors also won by a 10-0 margin.
Diana Smith and Lisa Pettener-Jones dismissed Elaine Fleming and Bethany Pye 6-2, 6-3, and then eased past Penny Smith and Jennifer Poole 6-1, 6-2.
The second Droitwich pairing of Marelize Yorke and Faye Lovell were also in form, impressing with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Penny Smith and Poole, followed by the 6-0, 6-1 victory against Fleming and Pye.
Droitwich A’s mixed team remain top of Mixed Division Two after rescuing a 5-5 draw at Ledbury A.
All appeared to be going to plan for the leaders when Penelope Maidment and Kevin Hodges defeated host pairing of Rosemary Holland and Matthew Baum.
But successive defeats for Droitwich’s Claire Baker and David Lamb, going down 6-3, 6-2 to Ann Hume and Stephen Finch followed by a 6-4, 7-6 reverse at the hands of Holland and Baum, meant that a draw was the best that Droitwich could hope for.
So there was imaginable relief when Maidment and Hodges came to the rescue to earn a share of the points, courtesy of a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Hume and Finch.
