DROITWICH A have continued their perfect start in the mixed doubles in Herefordshire & Worcestershire Winter League Division Two.
A 10-0 whitewash of Ledbury A on Tuesday night followed on from a win by the same scoreline against Droitwich B a week earlier, pitting them at the top of the division after only dropping one set throughout.
The Droitwich pairing of Diana Smith and Jonathan Moran were 6-0, 6-0 winners over the hosts’ Rosemary Holland and Peter Hewitt, though Penelope Maidment and Ben Steel were given a tougher task in the 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 victory against Ann Hume and Stephen Finch.
Two further straight-sets victories followed, first with Steel and Maidment’s 6-0, 6-4 triumph against Holland and Hewitt, followed by Smith and Moran’s 6-1, 6-1 rout of Finch and Hume to finish off proceedings.
Droitwich A visit Eardisley on Sunday November 24 next.
Bromsgrove A also continued their winning start in Division One of the women’s doubles with a 10-0 thrashing of Leominster A.
Starting brightly with Lucy Simper and Katherine Smedley’s 6-2, 6-2 win over Emma Bowen and Lucinda Cain, established pairing Sally Franks and Tina Manning then won match two 6-3, 6-1 against Joanna Hilditch and Sarah Snell.
Another straightforward win for Simper and Smedley followed against Hilditch and Snell in a 6-1, 6-0 success, rounded off by a 6-4, 6-1 win for Manning and Franks against Bowen and Cain.
A trip to Ledbury A in December awaits Bromsgrove A next.
Droitwich’s D team were not quite as successful at Quarry Bank in Division Six East however, losing 10-0.
Quarry Bank’s James Chapman and Emily Finney were given a good contest by John Jenkins and Julia Letts, though it was the hosts who prevailed 6-3, 7-5.
Droitwich duo Claire Evans and Nicholas Dickson had no complaints in their 6-0, 6-1 defeat to Sandra Hampton and Harry Stafford, while Jenkins and Letts again went down with a fight against Chapman and Finney in a 7-5, 7-5 loss.
Evans and Dickson then lost by the same 6-0, 6-1 scoreline to their opponents Hampton and Stafford to end the afternoon on a low point.
Droitwich host Stourport A on Saturday November 2.
