DAVID Lloyd Bromsgrove A tasted defeat on their first outing in this season’s Herefordshire & Worcestershire Winter League Men’s Division One.

A 6-4 defeat away to Worcester A was not the start they hoped for, nor expected when George Southall and James Nolan opened with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over James Attwood and Billy Wright.

Joshua Hughes and Jack White roared back with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over James Troth and Henry Myatt, though the Worcester duo lost out to DL Bromsgrove’s Southall and Nolan in their second match by a 6-1, 1-6, 4-6 scoreline.

The overall win was on the line going into the final match, and Attwood and Wright beat Troth and Myatt 6-2, 6-4.

DL Bromsgrove A return to action in early November with a home tie against David Lloyd Worcester A.

In Men’s Division Two, Bromsgrove A swept aside Barnt Green A with straight sets victories in all the matches played.

Joe Hart and Finley Cook won the opener 6-1, 6-2 against Paul Cowie and James Hodges, followed by Adam Dudek and Oliver Stratford’s whitewash win against James Flynn and Will Scarle 6-0, 6-0.

Dudek and Stratford battled their way to a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Cowie and Hodges before Hart and Cook sealed the points in style with a second whitewash win of the morning against Flynn and Scarle.

The derby between David Lloyd Bromsgrove D and Droitwich G in Women’s Division 11 East finished in a 5-5 draw.

Droitwich G had the early advantage after Lynne Williams and Sheila Greenfield earned a 7-6, 6-4 win over Joan Mitchell and Mary Burns, before DL Bromsgrove turned the tie on its head courtesy of two 6-3, 6-3 wins in succession from Sue Nickson and Nancy Berry and Joan Mitchell and Mary Burns.

But Williams and Greenfield secured a share of the points thanks to a 7-6, 7-5 win against DL Bromsgrove’s Sue Nickson and Nancy Berry.

Droitwich G visit Stourport C on Sunday October 20, while David Lloyd Bromsgrove D host Blakedown & Hagley B in mid-November.
