LADY luck was finally on Fairfield Villa’s side as they picked up their first win of the season on Saturday.
A dreadful run of injuries and unavailability have contribution to a disappointing start to the campaign in Midland Football League Division Two.
But their determination to turn things around shone through against Barnt Green Spartak as they secured a 2-1 win.
Due to Villa’s lack of fit players, they could only field a starting 11 and the visitors looked to exploit this as they edged the first half.
After missing several chances, Barnt Green finally took the lead, but Villa responded superbly. Almost immediately Isaiah Graham-Clarke got brought down in the box and Chris Lowe thumped home the penalty.
With no players available on the bench, Fairfield were forced to dig deep, with Ryan Taylor making a number of fine saves.
And their efforts were rewarded late on when Oscar Collins sent in a cross and Jordan Smith struck.
Fairfield also got their slice of luck as Sam Delaney was in the right place at the right time to clear two efforts off the line.
