BARNT Green Tennis Club’s Mixed B team continued their push for promotion to Hereford & Worcester Division Six with a 6-2 victory at home to Belbroughton B.
The first pair of youngster Beth Harris and the more experienced Andrew Yair, who returned to the mixed teams after a three-year absence, had a battle on their hands against the determined pairing of Pauline Baptiste and Phil Broom.
But the duo came through, winning 7-6 6-3 before the second pair of Megan Resse and Hammad Ahmad made shorter work of husband and wife team, John and Valerie Knott, as they clinched a 6-3 6-1 victory.
In the return rubbers, Barnt Green’s Resse and Ahmad struggled against Baptiste and Broom and eventually went down 6-4 6-1.
But Harris and Yair produced the goods again as they tied John and Valerie in knots before winning 6-1 6-0 to ensure that victory in either of the two final fixtures will seal a third successive promotion.
