THE QUALITY on show at SW19 appeared to rub off on players at B45 as they produced some stellar showings for Barnt Green last weekend.
With strawberries and cream available and with both finals on the television, the club really embraced this year’s Wimbledon.
And the upbeat atmosphere seemed to transfer onto the courts as the Ladies Team secured a winning draw against Ombersley to keep them on track for promotion to Division Two.
The vibrant and energetic first pair of youngsters Beth Harris and Rachel Scott won both their matches with a display of power hitting that was reminiscent of Serena Williams’ victory at Wimbledon.
Meanwhile, the second pair of Victoria Clipsham and Pauline Harman showed Novak Djokovic-like resilience to hold off the Ombersley challenge to win their next match and maintain the Barnt Green Ladies undefeated start to the season.
The Men’s A Team are back in action this weekend with a relegation 12-pointer against Wall Heath A. They will be hoping that the in-form first pairing of Paul Cowie and Paul Bill will inspire the rest of the team to up their game enough to survive for an unprecedented season in Division One.
