BROMSGROVE Sporting moved four points clear at the top of the Midland League Premier Division table with a 3-0 victory over Shepshed Dynamo.

Club chiefs praised the groundsmen for getting the game on, despite the awful conditions, as the Rouslers took full advantage of Coleshill Town’s inactivity with a slick performance in front of an 890-strong crowd at the Victoria Ground.

Brendan Kelly’s men started brightly and had several chances to open the scoring inside the opening 20 minutes with John Pykett firing over from inside the area after three minutes while Jason Cowley curled a left-footed shot wide moments later.

The hosts continued to press with Cowley again coming close, curling just wide after connecting with R’mar Murray’s pullback before the latter was denied by Dynamo keeper Denham Hinds at the near post after 20 minutes.

However, five minutes later the Leicestershire side’s resilience was broken.

Josh Quaynor’s corner towards the back post was well controlled by Richard Gregory whose deft touch gave him the time and space to fire home a delightful curling effort into the far corner.

The scoreline remained at 1-0 as both sides went into the break but following the interval Shepshed had their chances to draw level against a slow-starting Bromsgrove.

Lively forward Shay Brennan had the pick of the chances, first curling wide within a minute of the restart before capitalising on a defence mix up eight minutes later only to see his effort well blocked by the onrushing Reece Francis.

Twenty minutes later Dynamo were punished for not taking their chances as the Rouslers doubled their lead.

Liam Armstrong’s dipping volley was superbly tipped onto the post by Hinds but Cowley was on hand to prod a goal-ward bound shot which was scrambled over the line at the back post by Murray.

The points were then sealed with 16 minutes remaining after Pykett showed good strength to force his way into the box before squaring to Cowley whose initial shot was blocked.

But there was Armstrong to drive in a left-footed shot which crawled through a crowded penalty area and into the far corner to top off his man-of-the-match performance.
