DAVID Lloyd Bromsgrove A delivered a blow to Division One leaders Manor Park A in the Men’s Herefordshire & Worcestershire Winter League on Sunday.
A 6-4 win at home to the table-toppers pushed DL Bromsgrove up to second, just two points behind their rivals with two matches left to play.
After falling a set behind, James Nolan and George Southall recovered to beat Manor Park’s Jamie Marks and Christopher Marlow 4-6, 6-3, 7-6.
The hosts’ Henry Myatt and Liam Hadfield also had a three-setter against Paul Burgess and Charlie Titmuss, albeit losing the match 6-4, 4-6, 7-6.
Nolan and Southall were dominant in the third rubber, winning 6-1, 6-0 against Burgess and Titmuss to claim the overall victory, despite Myatt and Hadfield losing 6-3, 6-2 defeat to Marks and Marlow.
In Division Four East, David Lloyd Bromsgrove B missed the chance to go top after slumping to an 8-2 defeat away to Droitwich C.
Jon Sarriegui and Johnathan Moran won the first rubber for the hosts in straight sets, defeating Martyn Langston and Richard Garbett 7-6, 7-5.
Richard Clive and Ben Steel had to battle it out to get past Bromsgrove’s Cormac and Eamon O’Connor in a 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 victory.
Sarriegui and Moran were also successful in three sets over the O’Connors, running out 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 winners in a close-fought match.
The only win for the David Lloyd club came in the final rubber, when Langston and Garbett recorded a 6-2, 6-3 success over Clive and Steel.
