A RESPIRATORY advanced nurse practitioner from Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust has been selected to become a member of a prestigious national clinical committee.

Heather Lloyd will join the British Thoracic Society’s Pleural procedure clinical statement group.

The group provides clinical staff from across the country with the opportunity to champion excellence in the diagnosis and treatment of people with lung disease, whilst also influencing policy and practice to improve services offered across the UK.

On her recent appointment Heather said: “My position here at Worcestershire Royal Hospital is an advanced respiratory nurse practitioner, specialising in pleural disease management. Being able to contribute to the formulation of potential national guidance in my speciality is very exciting.”

“I feel very proud to have been invited to join as the only nurse member in a group of clinical experts within this field. I am very excited to be a part of this process which I feel marks the pinnacle of my career so far.”

Lead Respiratory Consultant at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Dr Clare Hooper, said: “As a department we’re extremely proud of Heather for being selected to be part of such a prestigious and influential group.

“We run a pleural service that has been recognised by the 2019 national GIRFT (Getting It Right First Time) review process to be exemplary in promoting safe outpatient ambulatory management and minimising length of stay for patients requiring pleural procedures, and Heather has been key to its development and delivery for more than a decade.

“Heather will make an invaluable contribution to the statement group and we look forward to seeing translation of her clinical experience in Worcestershire into this important national guideline and using this to further improve our local service”
