MOTORISTS are being offered free driver awareness sessions so they can keep themselves safe on the region’s roads, writes Kate Duffy.

The workshops are being funded and organised by West Mercia Police and Commissioner John Campion.

The training will test drivers on their Highway Code knowledge including speeds, signs and hazard perception.

Participants will learn the affects poor driving can have on lives and review the crash statistics from a Roads Policing Officer.

They will also be shown how technology like dash cams can help and will be offered a discount if they are looking to buy one.

Mr Campion said he and his team had made a good start working with councils and the police to improve the roads, so education was the next step.

“Bad habits and bad road behaviour can be hard to shift which is why we need to be doing all we can to make our roads safer,” he added.

The sessions start in different parts of Worcestershire in November and will be held every two months.
