All lanes of the northbound carriageway re-opened just after midday but it will take a while for the traffic to return to normal levels.

Following the incident West Mercia Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any dashcam footage to call officers on 101.

Ch Supt Tom Harding said: “As the public would expect in such tragic cases, a thorough investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances behind the collision and our thoughts are with the families involved at this difficult time.

“Enquiries are currently ongoing and we would encourage anyone who saw the collision or has dashcam footage of the moments leading up to it to come forward.

“Although the road is now reopened, traffic may be affected for the next few hours or so and we would advise motorists to avoid the area.

“We would like to thank everyone, especially the local community for their support and understanding today while we carried out our initial investigations this morning.”
