Wellbeing at the Wishing Well has 1,000 bras dropped at its doorstep

WELLBEING at the Wishing Well in Bromsgrove has had more than 1,000 bras dropped at its doorstep following a public appeal to help raise money for the charity ‘Against Breast Cancer’.

The company has been amazed with the response it has had in just three short months, after putting out the appeal in the Standard.

Manager Tracey Barnes said: “The community has really come together for a good cause.

“Some people have been bringing in bin bags full of old bras which has really helped us reach our goal.”

Most of the bras will be recycled in order to keep them out of landfill and then sold on.

Every £1 raised will be vital in helping to continue important work to find a vaccine against breast cancer in a bid to increase survival rates of men and women who have the disease.

The bras which are not recycled will be sent to African women who are living in poverty.

By collecting, reusing and recycling many thousands of tons of textiles, 7.8million tonnes of CO2 emissions are saved every year.

Tracey added: “We’re just so grateful, it’s gone so much better than we ever expected.”
