BROMSGROVE’S Willows Hedgehog Rescue has been given a £600 cash boost by two of its volunteers to help it through the festive season.
Jackie Janes and Jane Clarke, who are both retired, raised the funds by making and selling bespoke decorative bottles and knitting hedgehogs in all shapes and sizes.
Some of the bottles featured animal designs, such as giraffes, elephants and hedgehogs, and one was even themed on Elvis.
Jane said: “People ask us what they want the bottles to look like and we go away and design them, using transfers or pictured napkins.”
Jackie added: “It’s just brilliant down at Willows – all the volunteers love it down there.
“They really battle against the odds and do a fantastic job.”
Among the pair’s roles at the centre are cleaning out the hedgehogs, fostering the creatures and being ‘hog nannies’ to look after hoglets.
Jayne Lawrence, who runs Willows with Charlie Walker, said: “What they have been doing is amazing and we want to say a big thank you to them – both for the volunteering and the fund-raising.
“This is our most expensive time of year – our food bill goes up, along with our electricity bill, and this £600 will be a Godsend.”
Willows will be looking for more volunteers in the new year.
