VIDEO - Bromsgrove District Council reveals Christmas and New Year bank holiday bin collection changes

Bromsgrove Editorial 7th Dec, 2020 Updated: 7th Dec, 2020   0

BROMSGROVE District Council has created a quirky video as part of it announcing this year’s changes to the festive season bin collections.

Residents who would be due a bin collection over the Christmas and New Year bank holidays – December 25, 2020, and January 1, 2021 – are being advised to double check when to put their bins out as there are changes to collections which fall on the Fridays.

People whose usual collection day is a Friday are being asked to put their bins out on the following Monday during the festive season. All other collection days will be unaffected and should be put out as normal.

To make sure people are aware, the council has created a special Christmas video from their crews and are urging people to share the news with their friends, family and neighbours – especially given the current issues and restrictions posed by the pandemic and to avoid any missed collections.

The Christmas period timetable:

Normal Collection Day                 Revised Collection Day

Friday 25 December                            Monday, December 28

Friday 1 January                                  Monday, January 4

There are no other planned changes.

Coun Margaret Sherrey, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, said: “As always we have had to make some changes to bin collections over the Christmas and New Year period, but we hope that this will not cause too much disruption to residents, particularly as it only affects Friday collections this year.

“After an unusual and uncertain year, I hope our waste crews enjoy some well-deserved time off to spend with their families. Of course, our thoughts will also be with our fantastic NHS key workers who continue to save lives daily.

“On behalf of our crews and Environmental Services Team, I wish all of our residents a very Merry Christmas.”

Residents are reminded to put their bin out by 7am on their day of collection as on occasion it is necessary for the crew to change their route. This may mean they come to you earlier or later than normal.

If over the next few weeks, there is snow or ice which means council crews cannot get to residents on their collection day, people are reminded that they should, where possible, leave their bin out and it will be collected as soon as we can and it is safe to do so. If that happens, regular advice will be issued on the council’s website and social media as usual.

Residents are also reminded that the Garden Waste service will take a two week break (weeks commencing December 21 and 28) before restarting in the New Year (week commencing January 4).

Up-to-date information about bin services is available from www.bromsgrove.gov.uk/bins and updates are added to the Bromsgrove District Council Facebook and Twitter pages.
