'Use Worcestershire's Minor Injury Units to take pressure off A&Es' say health bosses

Bromsgrove Editorial 20th Sep, 2020   0

USE OUR Minor Injury Units to take the pressure of A&E – that’s the message from Worcestershire health bosses.

People are being urged to go to community hospitals, including the Princess of Wales in Bromsgrove and Malvern’s Community Hospital, which can deal with small cuts, burns, strains or suspected fractures.

Patients can now book an appointment slot at one of the sites via NHS111 or can just turn up and be triaged on site.

There is a good chance they will be seen quicker than if they were to go to one of the county’s A&Es.

Phil Shakeshaft, Minor Injury Unit Lead for Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, said: “It is much more appropriate to use an MIU than to attend A&E if you have a minor injury.

“A&E should only be used for emergency or life threatening conditions.

“Often the waiting times in our MIUs are significantly less than an A&E department and we have also taken all necessary steps to ensure our units are safe and can adhere to social distancing measures.”

Anyone attending a unit should wear a face mask, and we are also asking that only one person attends if possible.

Minor Injury Units at Tenbury and Evesham Community Hospitals remain closed at the moment.
