A 24-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with murder and attempted murder after the discovery of a body in the River Severn in Worcester.

Charles Byrne, aged 24, from Waterworks Road, Worcester, has been remanded and will appear at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court to appear today (Friday, February 12).

The body of the woman, who is in her 20s, has not yet been formally identified but her family have been informed.

Cordons were in place at the Diglis footbridge, Waterworks Road and Cheviot Close yesterday while searches were carried out by officers from West Mercia Police, Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire and Rescue Service and South Wales Police Specialist Search team.

Police confirmed yesterday it was  an isolated incident and I can confirm that we are not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident.
