THERE were 152 blooms at Shirley Chrysanthemum Society’s late flower show held at Bromsgrove’s Burcot Garden Centre.

The number was down on previous years, attributed to one of the prolific exhibitors being unavailable due to illness.

There were 23 entries in the main section and four vase displays.

Jack Gilbert won first and second place in the Best Vase category, winning a trophy and a silver medal.

Best exhibit went to Ian Thornton who also won Best In Curves an Best Large Exhibition Vase, meaning he received two trophies and a certificate of merit.

John Rogers won the most points in this show which also won him the title for best points overall in the early and late events. He won three trophies in total, including Best Singles Vase.

Other winners included Chris Amphlett who took one trophy and Dan Fellows won the Best Vase for Effect.

The judges were Keith Smith and John Powell.

John said the event went well and attracted a lot of interest from visitors, including one woman who grew the same Chrysanthemums as the ones exhibited at the show and a man who keen to join the society in the new year having been a member of a now-defunct Birmingham branch.
