TRIBUTES have been paid to a much-loved Bromsgrove Councillor who has sadly passed away in hospital, leaving colleagues ‘devastated’.
Peter Lammas died on October 22 after a short illness, aged 71-years-old.
Coun Lammas worked as a compositer in the newspaper industry before re-training as a journalist, getting his start as a reporter with the Bullivant family, owners of the Bromsgrove Standard.
He spent the last six years on Bromsgrove District Council, representing the Norton Ward which returned him with a thumping majority at the local elections in May last year.
He served on several committees including Electoral Matters and the Overview and Scrutiny Board which he chaired from 2013 to 2014.
Bromsgrove District Council Leader, Geoff Denaro, said: “I was devastated to receive the news that our friend and fellow councillor, Peter, had passed away
“We had all been hoping, along with his family, that he was making progress to recovery but sadly that was not to be.
“During his six years on the council he played a full part in all council discussions as member for Norton and also chaired the O and S committee. He was very keen to support his residents and dealt avidly with their queries.
“His previous life as a reporter meant he was well briefed on current events. He had a quiet authority and kept himself well up to date on the political scene. We had many conversations which usually resulted in our discussing our favourite subject – golden retrievers! Without doubt his friends and colleagues will remember him as a lovely man. I will too.”
