Three crashes on the M5 during this morning's rush hour

THE EMERGENCY services dealt with three crashes on the M5 this morning in less than an hour-and-a-half.

Heavy rain during this morning’s rush hour provided testing driving conditions for motorists commuting to work.

In the first incident at 8.36am, two cars collided just past Junction 5, near Droitwich.

Three lanes of the northbound carriageway were closed while Worcestershire Highways and West Midlands Ambulance Service sorted out the crash.

Two people were assessed by paramedics and discharged at the scene.

Then at 9.59am near Frankley Services there was a crash between a lorry and a car.

No-one was injured in the collision.

And at 10am in between Junction 4 (Bromsgrove) and Junction 3 (Quinton) a man in his 50s was hurt when the car he was driving crashed into a bridge.

The airbag was triggered and, after he managed to get himself out, he was treated at the scene by medics before being taken to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
