Stoke Prior Tower campaigners hoping to do-si-do closer to fund-raising target

THE ORGANISERS of the appeal to save the Stoke Prior Church Tower are hoping to do-si-do their way closer to their fund-raising target with a barn dance next Friday, October 18.

The fund-raising campaign for St Michael’s and All Angels began in 2015 and now less than £20,000 is needed by the end of the year to unlock £333,000 worth of National Lottery Heritage funding.

If the amount is reached it will safeguard the long-term future of the tower and church which was renovated in the 19th century by Salt King John Corbett.

Since then, however, the building, especially the tower, has fallen into a dangerous state of disrepair with severe structural damage.

Tickets, which include a light supper of a filled roll, are £10.

The event at Stoke Prior Village Hall, Hanbury Road, next Friday runs from 7.30pm to 10.30pm.

People should take their own drinks.

Gary Stokes, the chairman of the Friends of Stoke Prior Church said: “Everyone working to save and protect the church wants to say thank you to all our supporters and help that we have received since we began our journey.

“We are nearly there and hope we can find the final amount.”
