Sticks at the ready for this year's Bromsgrove Hockey Fest this weekend

Bromsgrove Editorial 5th Sep, 2019   0

IT WILL be sticks at the ready this weekend when the annual Bromsgrove Hockey Fest is held, writes Ben Workman.

The free event begins at Bromsgrove Hockey Club tomorrow when the first team takes on Redditch at 10.30am.

The match is free to watch and promises to be an exciting affair.

An adults’ mixed tournament – for 14 years and over – takes place at 2.30pm.

The eight-a-side game will be played with 15-minute rotations and be followed by a friendly social event at the clubhouse in the evening.

Players wanting to take part should wear suitable clothing, shin pads and a gumshield.

The weekend’s festivities conclude on Sunday, September 8, when Bromsgrove welcomes youngsters aged five to nine to join their Junior Academy at the Friends and Family Fun Day from 10am.

The club is also running a goalkeeper recruitment campaign, #GoForGoal, to offer training and support to both junior and senior applicants willing to try their hand (and head and legs and feet) ‘behind the mask’.

All of this weekend’s activities are taking place at Bromsgrove Cricket, Tennis and Hockey Club on St. Godwalds Road, Aston Fields, Bromsgrove B60 3BW.

Bromsgrove Hockey club provides loads of ways to enjoy the sport:

  • Junior Academy (for under 10s)

  • Hockey for Heroes programme (for aged 5-9yrs)

  • Badgers Hockey (for aged 10-14yrs)

  • Adults (for aged 13-64+), with 6 Ladies Teams and 5 Men’s Teams playing in Worcestershire and Midlands Leagues, plus social Mixed Squads and a Veterans Team.

  • Adults Back to Hockey training, Walking Hockey for a softer pace and Rush (Indoor) Hockey

  • The club is also running a Goal Keeper recruitment campaign, #GoForGoal, to offer training and support to both junior and senior applicants willing to try their hand (and head and legs and feet!) ‘behind the mask’.
