YEAR 12 students at South Bromsgrove High School showed their mettle when they took part in a six-month industrial engineering project with Redditch firm Mettis Aerospace Ltd, writes Elliot Ball.

Kudzaishe Chiwara, James Horne, Tom Newton and George McNie undertook a real-world engineering project to design and manufacture a fixture to hold forged aircraft components while they were measured in a co-ordinate measuring machine.

As a result, their design has now been implemented to improve the quality control process at Mettis Aerospace.

The project was part of the national ‘Engineering Education Scheme’ aimed at providing students with an in-depth experience in science, engineering and technology.

The students ‘did South proud’ when they presented their work at the EES Celebration and Assessment Day in Solihull.

An assessor at the exhibition praised the students for how well they had done in both their presentation and question handling.
