South Birmingham residents voice concerns about controversial proposal for crematorium near Waseley Hills

Bromsgrove Editorial 27th Jan, 2018   0

RESIDENTS in south Birmingham have voiced their concerns about the controversial proposal to build a crematorium on green belt land near to the Waseley Hills.

The comments, made at the Longbridge ward meeting on Tuesday night, follow developer H2 Land Ltd submitting a third application for the site off New Inns Lane after the original one was thrown out as it did not have the ‘very special circumstances’ required to develop on green belt land.

Further proposals for the crematorium were refused by the planning committee in September in 2016 and the appeal was dismissed last August by the Planning Inspector.

Permission had previously been granted for a cemetery, chapel and maintenance building.

Residents said roads were not suitable to accommodate the development and questioned the need for it as other crematoriums were not running to their full capacity.
