Rubery man flies out to watch semi-final clash between England and Netherlands

A FOOTBALL fan from Rubery has jetted out to Portugal ahead of England’s semi-final clash against Netherlands in the Nations League tonight.

Steven Hopwood, who also travelled to Russia to watch Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions play during the Word Cup, is hoping for a positive result.

He said: “I think we have a great chance because our squad is young and fearless.

“It was a sad ending in Russia, but I still had a wonderful experience.”

If England go on to beat Netherlands at the Estádio Afonso Henriques stadium, they will face Portugal in Sunday’s final after Cristiano Ronaldo’s stunning hatrick against Switzerland last night.

Steven, who has travelled with his friend Nick Baker, said: “I’m hoping Nick gets the England bug while we’re out here.

“The Nations League isn’t as big as the World Cup but I’m feeling great to be out of the country and following England away once again.

“If they win we will stay to watch the final too – I would love to see England win their first trophy since 1966.”

England looked to be down and out of their qualifying after two games, but went on to beat Spain 3-2 away from home before a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over World Cup finalists Croatia at the end of last year.

Coverage of England vs Netherlands will start at 7pm on NOW TV Sky Sports pass.
