MOTORISTS in Rubery have been warned about driving the wrong way around the mini island outside Waseley Hills High School.
Drivers have been told to ‘slow down and give a child a chance’ by the Rubery Safer Neighbourhood Team after a number of near misses.
Police have received a number of complaints from residents about the way people have been driving near the school endangering pedestrians, including children, and other road users as well showing a complete disregard for the law and the highway code.
A police spokeperson said some motorists had been traveling along Gunner Lane towards School Lane and cutting across the wrong side of the island, instead of driving around it.
They added the roundabout was designed to slow vehicles down on the approach and was deliberately ‘dog legged’ for this purpose because of how close it was to the school.
It has been designed to protect children walking to and from school but some drivers have ignored it and driving in a straight line directly across the island.
