Rallying call issued to the Finstall community to come together to save their local pub

A RALLYING call has been issued to the Finstall community to come together to save their local pub.

Classed as an ‘Asset of Community Value’, The Cross Inn, on Alcester Road, shut its doors on September 2, leaving residents without a pub in the village.

Now, the Redditch and Bromsgrove branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) is urging community interest groups to step in and buy the popular pub in a bid to ensure it continues to serve the community.

Listed in the ‘Good Beer Guide’ and the recipient of the ‘Pub of the Season’ award in the past, CAMRA has announced its full support with assisting in the purchase.

Branch chairman Gez Quinn said: “There are many examples of community purchased pubs that are now thriving as well run and profitable community locals.

“We are looking to provide support at a branch and national level to any local community group interested in taking on The Cross”.

A spokesperson from Bromsgrove District Council confirmed a community interest group could express an interest to purchase The Cross Inn within an initial six weeks before December 11.

She said: “We have had a notification from the owner that the pub is for sale.

“If the council is notified of this interest then the group will have six months, including the initial six weeks, to put together a bid but any transaction is between the group and the vendor.

“The council keeps the register of ACVs and will note any changes.”

A spokesperson from Ei Publican Partnerships, owners of the site, said: “We are currently in talks with an interested party looking to take over the Cross Inn, Bromsgrove.

“We hope to complete the sale very shortly, so the pub can re-open as soon as possible.”

Expressions of interest should be sent to Jayne Pickering, Executive Director (Finance and Corporate Resources), Parkside, Market Street, Bromsgrove, B61 8DA, via email at [email protected] or by calling her on 01527 881400.
