Princess of Wales Community Hospital nurses share electric car to protect the environment

GREEN staff at Princess of Wales Community Hospital are now sharing a zero emissions car when driving to see patients.

The night community nursing team at the Bromsgrove hospital launched the project to be environmentally responsible when travelling long distances.

On average the nurses drive 42 miles every night but can sometimes rack up 100 miles across Worcestershire.

Team leader Gloria Tilt, who led the pool car project, said: “It has been extremely well received and feedback from colleagues has been very positive.

“As well as protecting the environment, it means less wear and tear on our own cars which we previously used for work travel.”

The electric car, along with newly-installed charging facilities, will be used by the out of hours nursing team which supports housebound patients.

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust which runs the hospital is keen to reduce its carbon footprint.

Richard Best, head of estates said: “The trust proactively encourages staff to cycle to work, has invested in reusable water bottles for staff to reduce plastic waste and has streamlined procurement and waste processes to minimise its impact on the planet.”
