Portway business owner hits out at state of roads as bin lorry gets stuck

A PORTWAY business owner has hit out at Worcestershire County Council after a bin lorry became stuck in a ditch earlier this morning.

The incident – in Seafield Lane – was the third one in less than two years.

Ian Williams, from Ian Williams Racing which has been based there for 20 years, posted this picture on Twitter.

He told the Standard: “Over the last five years the area has been deteriorating and something needs to be done.

“The roads are in a terrible state.”

It happened first thing this morning and by 11am the vehicle was still there, awaiting recovery.

A spokesperson for Worcestershire County Council Highways said: “Seafield Lane is a typical, very narrow country lane.

“Any large vehicle attempting to reverse up such a narrow road, is at risk of ending up in the ditches either side.

“That appears to have happened in this case.

“We have scheduled some minor improvement work for the road.

“But we would remind all large vehicles using the lane, to be aware that it is narrow and due care should be taken.”

A Bromsgrove District Council spokesperson said: “We’re currently removing the vehicle and another vehicle has been sent out to collect the rest of the bins on this round.

“It may be a little later than usual.”
