POLICE are trying to clear up a mystery surrounding a reported stabbing in Longbridge around 1.30pm on Tuesday.

Officers received information about the driver of a grey Vauxhall Astra trying to run a man over on Bristol Road South near the junction of Belton Grove.

The car then stopped on the kerb and the pedestrian reached inside the car through a back window and stabbed one of the people inside, although police stressed no-one had reported being stabbed.

The car and pedestrian then left the scene.

The man was white, aged in his late teens or early 20s and was wearing a white mask or scarf and black trousers or tracksuit bottoms.

Investigations are being carried out with officers trawling CCTV footage and carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the area.

Det Sgt Karen Taylor from Force CID, said: “This appears to have been a serious offence involving a weapon which we believe to have been a knife.

“We’d urge anyone injured during this incident to contact us so we can make sure they are okay.

“It occurred in broad daylight on a busy city centre route so we asking anyone who witnessed the incident or may have captured it on their dash cam to get in touch.”

Witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage should call officers on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
