Plenty to impress as artists open their doors during Bank Holiday

Bromsgrove Editorial 2nd Sep, 2019   0

THERE were grand day outs across the county over the bank holiday weekend as local artists threw open their workshop doors for Worcestershire Open Studios 2019.

And there was enough interest in the north of the county to keep fans of the creative arts engaged, from the always popular Jinny Ring where ceramicist Chris Bell and jeweller Belinda Terry were exhibiting, to well-known artist John Harris in Inkberrow who was showing off some of his eye-catching watercolours.

In between there was much to admire and enjoy, not least in Redditch itself.

From his Church Hill home artist Roger Ricketts was exhibiting quite stunning and arresting abstract paintings.

Roger, a member of Redditch Arts Circle, has previously displayed his work in the pop-up galleries in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre and fans can find out more at www.rogersartwwork.wixsite.com/painting.

In Astwood Bank, Vic and April Kirk of Lighthouse Glass were displaying some amazing pieces of ‘lamp work’ producing beautiful pieces of jewellery and figures from molten glass.

They sell regularly at craft fairs and can be found at 1160 Evesham Road, Astwood Bank or at www.lighthouseglass.co.uk.

Not far from the Jinny Ring, embroidery artist Eva Walters was displaying her beautiful cross stitch kits inspired by travels all over the globe as well as hand-made jewellery and photographs.

“I use ethnic textiles from different parts of the world, from China to Palestine, and each one has a purpose so they are useful as well as beautiful,” she said.

A former textile designer, her jewellery is also woven together rather than strung.

The return route on the Alcester Road to Inkberrow takes in Kingcot Gallery, an artists’ collective headed by fused glass worker Vicky Kitchen.

It’s on the A422 between Cockshot Lane and Dormston Lane or check out https://en-gb.facebook.com/allfiredupuk/
