HUNDREDS of people turned out for this year’s Bromsgrove Pensioners’ Fair organised by town MP Sajid Javid.

The attendance at Parkside clearly eclipsed last year’s total with the event heaving right from the off.

More than 50 exhibitors were at the Fair from organisations offering help and support, clubs and societies, charities, activities and tourist attractions.

Among them were West Mercia Police, the U3A, Artrix, BURT, Bromsgrove District Council, Rotary Club of North Worcestershire, Avoncroft Museum, the Stroke Association, Care Force, Bromsgrove’s Walking Sports and the town’s Forum for Older People.

Mr Javid said: “There are so many organisations, groups and clubs here but it is not just about that – it’s also about celebrating the huge contribution that older people make to our communities on a daily basis.”

Lesley Vanezis from Bromsgrove Flower Club, which has been going 62 years, said: “This is the third time we have been here and it is brilliant.

“Very often it’s not just women who ask about the club – we get a lot of men asking for their wives and mums.”

Bromsgrove Flower Club meets on the third Thursday every month from 2.15pm to 4.30pm at All Saints Church.

Jo Osborne from Care Force said: “We come here every year – this is the first time I have done it and it is great for us.

“There aren’t many events which are this big and enable you to reach so many older people at once.”

Geraldine Davies from Senior Care Support said: “I always publicise this fair on social media and when I am out and about because it’s such a great event.

“It’s good to let people know we are here and what we do.”
