Photograph Competition - Worcestershire village halls can put themselves in the frame for £1,000

ORGANISATIONS which run village halls can put themselves in the frame to win £1,000 by taking part in a photography competition aimed at celebrating the much-loved community hubs.

Allied Westminster’s Wonderful Villages contest is aimed at helping cash-strapped village halls – as well as the grand prize towards the building, the photographer will also receive £500.

Halls can enter as many pictures as they want on the theme ‘Village Life’ and judges will be looking for photographs which most capture the ‘sense of community’ and characterise the areas they are at the centre of.

This competition comes amidst the nationwide Village Halls Week which started on Monday and runs until this Sunday.

Allied Westminster has teamed up with charitable organisations, including ACRE, Plunkett Foundation and over thirty RCCs (Regional Community Councils) and a variety of trade publications to spread word to the more remote halls.

Managing director Gavin Mitchell said, with more than 100 entries already submitted, the organisers were very pleased with the response so far.

“Many of them are very touching.

“We started this competition to emphasise the amazing work that village hall volunteers do in providing a social focus and bringing villagers together, and the photos show that.

“In some rural locations, village halls are often the ‘go to’ place for social interaction, entertainment, emotional support and even medical care.

“Without them, villages would be much the poorer.”
