A PROMINENT Northfield gang member has been locked up for five years after he was caught with a gun and drugs following a police raid.

Officers swooped on the home of Marcel Mullings-Boyd as part of a pre-planned operation by the Organised Crime and Gang Team in Birmingham.

The 19-year-old was arrested after a handgun and cannabis plants were recovered from the address in Out Wood Drive, Northfield, on February 1.

He was sentenced to five years at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday (June 2) after pleading guilty to possession of a handgun and production of cannabis.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Dale, from West Midlands Police, said: “We will not tolerate illegal guns or drugs in our communities and this case should serve as a warning to others.

“The raid and arrest of Mullings-Boyd was the culmination of a lot of covert work carried out by officers who identified him as being a gang member suspected of criminal behaviour.

“We will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to disrupt gangs who cause fear and commit crimes in our communities.

“This is sometimes work which members of the public cannot always see but they should be assured we are taking action and pursuing further lines of inquiry.
