New railcard will give veterans and their families a third off rail travel

BROMSGROVE MP Sajid Javid has welcomed the Government’s new initiative to provide veterans and their families with a third off rail travel.

The ‘Veterans’ Railcard’ will discount all peak and off-peak fares, as well as travel for adult companions and children.

An estimated 830,000 veterans in the country, who are not eligible for existing railcards, will be able to get their hands on the new card from November 5.

The card itself pays tribute to the Royal Navy, RAF and Army using the colours featured on the veterans’ flag.

Captain Sir Tom Moore, who served in World War II and won the nation’s heart with his incredible fundraising efforts, was the first veteran to receive the railcard.

It will go on on sale at an introductory price of £21 until March 31, 2021.

Mr Javid said: “We owe a tremendous debt to our veterans who have served our country and community.

“Helping veterans connect with their friends, family and travel for work is part of the effort to repay that debt – and it is one that I wholeheartedly welcome.

“If you know someone who has served, please do let them know about this initiative.”
