A NEW market manager with more than 12 years experience has taken over the new-look market for Bromsgrove Town Centre.
Jonathan Smith, who also has the industry recognised Namba (National Association of British Market Authorities) diploma, left his role as assistant markets manager in Loughborough to take the job.
And he said he was relishing his new challenge.
“Bromsgrove is an established market town and has strong foundations to build on.
“I have lots of ideas and look forward to creating an even better, more vibrant market for Bromsgrove and residents, traders and visitors alike.”
Back in April the district council voted unanimously in bringing the market back under the authority’s control.
It was previously run by CJ Events which had operated successful markets in other areas but, just over a year into a five-year lease, the company claimed it was not commercially viable and gave notice to end its partnership.
At a meeting to determine its future councillors and the market traders said they disagreed with that view and voted through taking back control.
Coun Karen May, Bromsgrove District Council’s portfolio holder for the town centre and economic development, said: “We have just taken the market back in house because we want to provide a service which reflects the changing dynamic of the High Street.
“We are proud of our market town and I am delighted that Jonathan has joined us and his fresh approach is integral to our vision to create a Better Bromsgrove for everyone.”
