THE MP for Mid Worcestershire undertook a special challenge last Friday so he could understand the daily obstacles faced by visually impaired people.
Nigel Huddleston walked around busy Droitwich streets blindfolded with trainee guide dog Nushka as his only form of support.
Mr Huddleston said the experience gave him a greater appreciation for the challenges faced by people with sight loss.
According to the Guide Dogs charity 97 per cent of blind and partially sighted people find walking on streets difficult because they are cluttered with wheelie bins and poorly parked cars blocking the pavement.
Guide Dogs has been campaigning for clearer high streets and a standardised law on pavement-parking and trying to ensure parking on the pavement was only allowed in designated areas.
Engagement officer Eleanor Stephens thanked Mr Huddleston and said: “We hope he found the experience useful in understanding how difficult it could be to get around if you are visually impaired.”
