MORE THAN £700 was raised for the Midlands Air Ambulance when a Cafe Bridge event was held in Barnt Green.

Members of several bridge clubs in the Barnt Green and Bromsgrove areas took part in the session on October 5.

A number of local businesses supported the event and provided raffle prizes, including Robert Oulsnam, Village Vineyards, Oasis Flowers and Balloons, It’s a Gift and Tony’s Handyman.

Café bridge has become an increasingly popular concept in the last two or three years as it caters for all standards of player.

The players gathered in the Victoria for coffee and biscuits before moving on to their allotted cafes – the Café Morso and The Tea Shop as well as the Victoria itself. After a few hands of bridge, participants had a leisurely and enjoyable lunch before moving on to the next café to play more bridge.

Players moved to their third café by mid-afternoon.

It was a very enjoyable day for the players and, although the result was extremely close, Joanne Shone and Margaret Leighton emerged as winners following the very last hand of the day.
