A MAN in his 80s was taken to hospital with a fractured leg and his dog was killed after a serious four-car crash in Northfield yesterday evening.

The incident happened at 6.17pm on the Bristol Road South outside the Black Horse.

One of the cars involved, a silver Renault Megane, fled from the area, and was later found abandoned in a Winchester Gardens.

The man was lying on the floor when ambulance staff arrived and was already receiving treatment from the duty doctor. He was treated by paramedics for hip and chest injuries and a cut to the head. After being given pain relief at the scene he was taken to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Another elderly man who was driving one of the cars was treated for a leg injury and an elderly woman for a wrist injury. Both were taken to the QE.

The road was closed while police examined the scene and was re-opened at 11.30pm.

Sgt Michael Dunbar from Kings Norton Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This was a serious incident, involving several cars.

“Our thoughts are with the pedestrian whose leg was badly injured and who sadly lost his dog.

“We hope he will make a full recovery.”

Police are investigating and are keen to locate the person in the car which drove away from the scene.

West Midlands Police are investigating the incident. Anyone with any information should call police on 101.
