MORE than 50 inches of hair was cut from the heads of seven brave Bromsgrove women and children last Friday in aid of the Little Princess Trust.

The charity collects hair donations (minimum of 7 inches) and uses them to make wigs to send to young people across the UK who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Bromsgrove resident Sarah Milburn, a survivor of cancer herself, organised the event at her local hairdressers LK Hair.

She wanted to have her haircut in order to “give something back.”

Sarah set up a Facebook page to see if anyone else in the community would be interested in doing the same.

“I found out I had cervical cancer a few years ago but managed to get rid of it through surgery alone.

“I feel so lucky to have not lost my hair and that’s why it felt right to donate to such a worthy cause.”

Sarah was joined by six others who had all responded to her Facebook invitation saying they were up for the challenge.

The three youngest of the bunch was B’elana Thomson, aged six, Megan Green, aged 11 and Grace Garlington, aged 15.

A red carpet was rolled out in front of LK Hair’s front doors on the day to welcome the fundraisers.

Proud family members sat by and watched on as the girls, who were all seemingly unfazed, got the trim.

Grace’s mum, Fiona Dockerty, said: “I am so proud of her and all of the other girls for what they’ve done.

“Grace wanted her haircut anyway so it seemed only right that we put it to good use.”

As well as donating their hair, the group also managed to raise more than £1,400 for the charity through various donations from family and friends.

Owner of LK Hair, Louise Hughes, said: “Me and my business partner Karen are very proud of the brave people who came in to our store today.

“We are going to try and do an event like this every year from now on.”
