A REDNAL mum who has been putting together special care packages for people living with cancer has donated them to a Birmingham hospice.

Hayley Stewart, 45, took the packs to St Mary’s Hospice to be handed out with the aim of bringing comfort and putting a smile on their faces.

Costing £12 to sponsor, the packs included such items as aloe vera based tooth gel, deodorant and lip balm, as well as fluffy socks and notes of encouragement.

The cosmetic bags were all handmade by local fashion student Sophie Drinkwater.

Hayley said: “It was lovely to have a look around the hospice and see the fantastic work it does.

“I’m really grateful to all my sponsors as now all the patients will be receiving a Christmas present that will hopefully make them more comfortable.”

Hayley delivered 49 packs to the hospice, another eight were sponsored by people who took the packs to friends or family undergoing chemotherapy and a further ten will be delivered after Christmas.

Helen O’Halloran, nursing director at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, said: “Hayley’s care packs are incredibly thoughtful and we look forward to handing them out.

“Whilst they’ve been specifically tailored for people who are having chemotherapy treatment, we know that all our individuals – whatever their treatment or condition – will be able to enjoy them and find them beneficial.

“Thank you so much to Hayley and to the kind people who have sponsored so far – the packs really will make a difference.”
