Hockey finally coming home to Bromsgrove as team celebrate pitch opening

Bromsgrove Editorial 3rd May, 2016 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

FOLLOWING the success of its campaign – the Bromsgrove Hockey Club will celebrate its official pitch opening on home ground for the first time this Friday night.

The evening at St Godwald’s Park will begin with a ‘flicks and tricks’ workshop at 6pm, followed by the official opening ceremony with ex GB double Olympian Michael Johnson at 7pm.

There will also be an exhibition match featuring an all-star line-up and live music from the fabulous Miss Fortunes from 9.15pm onwards.

A visit is also expected from Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid.

The Bromsgrove Hockey Club was first established in 1890. By 1993, it moved off the grass and onto an artificial pitch in Redditch – shifting away from home ground.

It took three attempts for the club to finally secure funding for its very own pitch.

BHC chair Andy Potter said: “A lot of people have played Hockey for Bromsgrove over the years and I think they would be delighted to see we have finally brought the club back to playing their home matches in Bromsgrove, rather than Redditch as has been the case for the last 20+ years.

“We are expecting people who will have travelled from outside of the region to join us for this historic and long awaited occasion – it’s set to be a great night with some very special guest players lined up to take part.”
