High praise for Bromsgrove ladies after Hockey for Heroes encounter

BROMSGROVE Hockey Club received high praise following a charity match against a strong Hockey for Heroes (H4H) outfit at RGS The Grange in Worcester on Sunday, writes Thomas Giles.

The Bromsgrove line-up, which featured players from all five of the club’s ladies’ squads, faced a tough task against a H4H, which included current Scotland captain Nikki Alexander-Lloyd and two-time Commonwealth Games medallist Melanie Chewlow.

Unfortunately Bromsgrove were on the end of a heavy 10-0 defeat but they still won plaudits from their opposition.

H4H chief executive Joel Forrester said: “Our ladies were really impressed by the tenacity of the Bromsgrove players.”

Special mentions were also given to Bromsgrove’s midfielder Ria Ratansi, and under-16 goalkeeper Lola Bryant.

“We presented awards to their youngest player Ria for her determination on the pitch, and also to goalkeeper Lola for doing a remarkable job having kept out more goals than were let in,” Forrester said.

Bromsgrove captain Dawn Tomlinson added: “We knew it was set to be a tough game, but also a great opportunity for our players to share the pitch with these outstanding women, as well as contribute towards a great cause.

“I was proud of every one of our players who all came away smiling, in spite of our loss.”

Bromsgrove Hockey Club plans to host both men’s and ladies H4H squads again this summer.
