FURTHER work on improving walking and cycling routes in Bromsgrove will start next week.

Worcestershire County Council started work last Autumn, with the aim of giving local residents a viable alternative to short car journeys.

The scheme, which is part of the Department for Transport’s National Productivity Investment Fund, will deliver six new walking and cycling pathways and improve those which are already in place.

Coun Ken Pollock, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for economy and infrastructure, said: “We’re progressing well with a number of projects in Bromsgrove aimed at improving walking and cycling routes.

“The works at Pig Alley, which will start on Monday, July 22, are an essential part of this programme and will improve the alleyway greatly.

“It will ensure this popular route, used by a lot of parents and school children, is fit for use at all times.”

The works will improve the appearance and accessibility of the area and will include widening the path to an average width of 3m, improving the drainage and updating lighting.

The entire alleyway will be closed for the duration of the project which is expected to finish in September ahead of children going back to school.

Diversion routes will be signposted.
